research initiatives to fund the digital divide

i think that the governement plan to get more people learning ict skills is good idea because i majority of jobs now need ict, such as buisness and adminstation. also schools are focusing on it alot more due to the amount done on computers these days even subjects such as maths use computers now. the main target will eb younger people who are looking to better there jobs or get a promotion, its strengths are that it will better peoples jobs however it is putting everyone into the same job, the inprovements would be specailisations in these fields for example anaylsis

ict pensioners in rural england

i feel that technology has made a impact on couples live for example there are things like friends reunited and facebook where you can find people you went to school with and reunite with your old friends also, old boyfriends and girlfrineds could find each other and maybe get back together or meet up again.

i think are lives would actually better if we did not have computers because if we didnt then we would be fitter and there would also not be a playstation generation, like there is at the moment where younger children do not ever go outside they just sit infront of pcs all their lives.

if the couple could afford their own compter then there would be no need to go to the local community centre.

who studies computing subjects

i find that a majority of class in ict will be male dominanted, i think this is because more boys will play games consoles and go on computers, which is a sad thing to happen for the male generation, boys should really be out playing sport or out with their friends not inside playing on games consoles and pc's. i think girls prefer to be outside and boys are not really fussed on going outside which show how generations have changed, i personally have seena a huge change in the amount of boys that stay inside in my year compared to the years below, i have seen that the younger generations will stay inside even more then the older generation.

what is the impact of internet access for the homeless

the imapct of not having the internet on a person mean they do not have the ease that the rest of us have with the internet. for example they could not buy items on the internet or check bus or train times. however they would be alot fitter then people who are to lazy to go out and buy the things they like and also i think that is better to go to the shop because you can try before you buy which you can not do on the internet no matter how advanced the internet becomes.
5 things that are more inportant then the internet to a homeless people are a roof over your head, heat, food, warmth and family. however alot of people would rather have their internet at the top of priorities, alot of children thing the internet is everything and amrodity of people do not go out and do sport like they use to.

conclusion

i think that the impact of the information age will change the way we live are lives, for example the fact that we can now watch what happens on other peoples computers, this is getting close to braking the data protection act, also with the new buying online we give out means that are identity is very vunrable on the internet. there are alot of benifits such as ease with buying things on ebay and hmv and other internet sites, however you give away alot of information such as bank details espcailly with internet banking which is hugely popular and easy for busy people tio mange their money. the future will bring more advance in protection but identity theft will always be a huge problem in the modern world

monitoring internet and email use

the advantages for content monitoring are you can make sure what your employes are going on and doing with their time. also with the key words of cv and jobs coming up then, you can see if an employ is thinking of leaving their job for another one also if they are making a new cv, or looking up salaries, i think its a way to keep a tab on your staff more then anything.
how ever the negative points are that it could be classed as a privacy vialation also they could use the data protection act because you have access to their details. which could lead to a court trail depending on the person.
the system would not work very well for people who just use their computors for buissness because if they were searching cv or salaries for a project then it will just flag up on their computor all the time which would limit how much work he could do.
i do not think this system is a very bad system it shows that you do not trust your employes and have to keep an eye on what they are looking at also it shows that the company is very controlling aboyut employes leaving the company for different jobs.

teen arrive alive GPS tracking system

i think this is a pointless system that does not need to be used because all it does is monitor your car. i think it is just a way of parents trying to keep an eye on their child when they should let them have there own independents. Aldso by the company claiming that 78 per cent of teenagers are ticketed or have a crash by the time they are 18, is not really fair to use because they are new drivers which means they are always going to make mistakes in their first few years of driving because they have no driving experience. i thin that this program is just a way of parents making sure they can keep an eye on their children, so i think it is just for over protective parents.

Discussion US passport and RFID

the dangers are that people could make fake identitys with modern computer programs, also i think that you culd quite easily miss out people i a crowded airport, where as with convention passports no one gets missed out because you have to go through passport control and get checked befroe you are allowed through to the departures which is good. also if someone got hold of one of the scanners they could very easily steal your identity with everything on it, because it contains your biometric identity.

Pro's and Cons of ID cards

There is alot of ict involved in the new ID cards for example there is a electronic chip in them that has all your information in it, such as date of birth and also a retner image of your eye in the chip.

i think it is not really need because passports already have all this information on them, and you would use your passport more often i think. also the passport would be used more by other people because it has been around for ages.

the advantages would be it would speed up check in at airports because there would be no fussing with id cards and passport, how ever if it went wrong it would cause huge problems

i do not think that these Id cards are a good idea i think they would cause unesseccary hasel

making choices

i have found a couple of good phones on the carphone warehouse for £9.95. these phones are really basic but are nice and simple to use and have all the neccessery componants that a phone will need, such as a colour screan and polyphonic ringtones. Also the phone is not to big and not to small, and is also simply to use with a clear green phone to answer the phone and a clear red to end the call.

Computer games

I think that computer games are so popular because everyone has a games console and they are prefect for parties, epsically with games like Guitar hero and singstar and buzz, these are brilliant games for all ages at parties. Also we have what is known as a playstaion generation, which means we are a sociatey of lazy teenegaers that just sit and play games which is bad for their eye sight being sat infront of a screne and also it is bad are social skills because we are only interacting with virtual people.

I think that computer games do not make me violet but they do however make some children violet for example the game manhunt got banned for being to violet and because it was being used in a trial of a young boy how had murederd in the same way you do on the game.

I think that games make you isolated because a majority of the time you are playing on your own. however with the invention of xbox live and the ps3 being able to talk and play against people all over the world has made it so you are not isolated

Pirated entertainment

the advantages of paying for dvds and music is that you get a better quality of music or of dvd, then if you pirate entertainment. for example if you pay for entertainment then you can grantee that someone wil not get up half way through and go to the toilet, or the camera will not be dropped because an attendent has come in.
the disadvantages of buying from a market stall is that if it does not work you can't take it back the next day because the chances are that they wont be there the next day. Also the chances are if they are there then, they wont refund you anyway.
The disadvantages of downloading a film before its uk release is that you will get a foreign film so it will be dubed for that nation. Also it will have terrible quality and the vision is terrible.
You are stopping the artist making money, you are cheating the system and you are leaving your computer open to viruses and other programs.
i think that wide spread donwload will discourage new talent music there is no money in music if everyone is illegally downloading

business communications

Business' use e-mail, instant messaging, mobile phones and lots more on a regular basis. E-mail's are used a lot in the workplace in order to communicate internally and externally, e-mails have replaced the old fashioned way of communicating internally, memos. E-mails are a much more quicker and efficient way of getting a message to many people in the workplace and allows people to send the same message multiple. Also, business make a large amount of phone calls in a day from mobile phones and office phones, it is a quick way of communicating and a good way of ensuring a client or collgeaue has got the message you wanted them to have and a fast way of getting a response.

Communication evaluation

the main types of communication i use at home is widows live messanger and facebook. i will also use my phone which i can get facebook and msn on as well, so i can still contact my friends when im on the move. i only use email at certain times mainly to talk to a girl i no in canada because phone calls over there are very very expensive, so i will email her, i also my friends at university because they are secared all around the country so its easier to contact them with email then phone, because they could be in a lecture or something where there not suppose to have their phones on.

When do you use mobile phones

I use a mobile phone on a daily bases i do not leave the house with out mine, it is how i comunicate with my friends and arrange to meet up. I also use mine as a camera and a music player, because it saves carrying around an ipod, camera and phone when you can have them all in one. The only problem with mobile phones is that it messes up your english becasue you speak in text messaging language rather then normal english for example before would be 'b4' and tonight would be '2nite'. i think that a mobile phone fulfils its purpose and above.

When do you use email

I use emails mainly to contact my friends in other countrys, or send and recieve work from college. The major benefits of using emails are that you can send files and pictures along with them, also it quicker then sending a letter also it is granteed to get there where as letters and other mail may get lost in the post. Also it saves companies alot of paper and time, for example if they have the same letter going out to a big group of people then with an email all you have to do is add all the recipitants to the mailing list, unlike with a letter where you have to write out the adresses separtely.

Digital communication versus voice conversation

Communication with SMS has alot of social disadvantages and advantages. The disadvantages are that they stop you interacting with people in a physical way and also by using SMS the reciever of your text will not no if you are being sarcastic or not, because they cannot see your facial expressions or you body language, this can end up with the person on the other end getting the wrong idea about the content of your SMS. However the advantages are that if you are shy then you can get to no someone without making yourself look like an idiot in front of them.

The social downsides of firing off a quick email rather then having a short convosation, are that again you could make the email sound like something it isnt. For example if you put sarcasum into the email then that could be interpreted in a different way.

anaylsising the good old days

Two applications he could use are microsoft access and excel.

These both have there advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of Access are that you can automatically fill in forms from other spreadsheets and databases so this saves you the hassel of doing it by hand. An advantage of using excel is that it can do calculations automatically and work out percentages and charts from your data this is very good for anyone, or any buisness because it saves them alot of time and money.

secretaries and typists were affected by these office packages because they found they are no nger need as much as they were because anyon e can do their job now so there is no need to hire as many, hwereas before they were the only people who could do that job. I think that access affected them the worst because it can do everything they can but quicker and with no faults, this is the same with excel the calculations wil always be right, because there is little human input so there is no room for human error.

However when these new office applications alot of new jobs became avaliable. Some examples of jobs are computer programers, and computer anaylsises. These new office applications made way for a whole new carrer which was the digital carrer. These carrers required lots of work because these systems had never been used before so no one really knew what they were doing on them.

analysing the good old days

two programs that they could use are microsoft access and microsoft excel. If they used these programs they would save paper and be able to manage their accounts easier. Two advantages of these programs are it is enviromental friendly, its quicker then using paper, also it stops human error. Access can be used alot more effiently then excel because you can make forms that automatically fill them selves in, which saves you time and effort.

problems

However there are problems with this one is he may turn on the pc and get a blue screen, or the battery may die or the files may be curupted and no longer work. Also all these items cost alot of money, such as a laptop, for a good one you are looking at about 600-700 pounds, or if you want a really nice one you are looking at £1200-£2000

tool man

If John had a laptop he could overcome alot of his problems, such as the need to carry a bulky sales catalogue containing all the lastest prices. if he had a laptop he could download it all to a single file and find the price which much more ease. Also If he had gps or sat nav he would no longer get stuck in trappic because the new sat nav will detect an accident and then re plot your route around the accident. If he had a mibile phone then he could inform cilents that he might be late and can also do calculations on his mobile, because it will have a calculator on it, also if he got the right phone, like the iphone or a sony walkmen phone he could also listen to his music on there whilst he drives or whilst he is walking to a client, also he would not have to carry coins around for the phones because he can simpley make a call to that person also if he had contract he would not have to top up the phone either.

Online Entertainment

The lastest online entertainment i have used was the playstation 3, on here we played guitar hero 3, this was very entertaining watching how into the game people get and the how hard the actual game is. If you play this game online you can purchase bonus songs such as the top gun athem, also you can play people across the world at any point. The limitations are the wireless can drop out as can be hard to connect at first. Also if you have slow internet connection speed it will make or gaming slower.

Downloads

In my family i am the only one who really downloads items. The items i download are music from itunes which i do on a regular bases, also i will download the lastest versions of certain programs such as itunes and the new windows programs and apple updates. I also download the new version of AVG everytime i turn on my computer this is done automatically by the program and keeps the program up to speed with any new virus's and replaces any old programs with the newest versions. I rather download these items because it is quicker then going to the shop and buying the program or going out and buying the cd, also if i only want one song then there is no point in buying the whole cd.

Government

It is easy to research government online services. the best way to do it is to go to www.direct.gov.uk and then clicking on the government section of the site. The first service i looked up was information services, this was really easy to, all the customer has to do is go to the top right hand of the page and click in the search and box and search what they want to know. After you have done this a page with all your results will come up such as the mobility information service. With this perticualar search there were 5000 different results so you are granteted to find what you are looking for.

Online reporting

Like the last search, all the customer has to do is go to the top right hand corner of the page, and type in Online reporting and advice and you get a page of results. however unlike the last search there is only 51 results this time, the results are subjects such as child abuse and benefit fraud. If you click on the subject you are interested in then it will take you onto a more detailed page. for example if you click on the child abuse page it gives you another page explaining all the items on child abuse.

Online Booking

If you search this on direct.gov then you get a list of results such as how to book your driving test to libary membership. If you click on each link as before it will take you to a page that expalins all the details of that search. For example if you click on the theory test link it will take you to a page where you can do practise versions of your theroy test to prepare you for the real thing.

Online payments

If you go back to the top of the page and search online payments then you 500 options to choose from such as student finacial help, to how to beat the credit crunch. these tips could be vital in the near future with the credit crunch and britains 0% economic growth last year.

This is possible because if all the information is on the internet then you don't have to print all the messages off onto paper saving loads of money in paper and other resources.

use a similation

I think this website is really good at serving its purpose it shows the reader images of what to do when disecting a frog. However there are not that many text pieces so it is mainly a picture based which is good but, the site would be better if it had text to accompany the photos the site could be alot better with more text to support the images and give a description of what is happeniong on the page.
recently i have been using the social network facebook and have also been using widows live messenger

education

I think that the modern world website is very good at serving its purpose. i think the timeline is a great idea becasue it lets students travel along the life of technology and learn as they are doing this. Also on this website you can follow the story of the modern personal computor, i think that this oart of the site is really good because it shows the old fashioned computor, such as the ones that use to take a whole room to house to the modern everyday computor that you can fit anywhere in your house or office. It lets the user navigate throught the life on the P.C, and tells the reader any key moments in the computors life such as 'By 1990 the first text Web browser was developed'. The website also allows the user to seeing the programers that made the modern day computor such as 'Marc Andreesen' who was the programer that enabled users to show images as well as text, on a page which was a huge step forwards from the text based computors of the past. At the very end of the timeline you get to see the modern computor against the old room sized computors from the past, the nright at the end you get to see the new apple ipod.

I feel the site is very good for the N user it lets the user navigate through time and shows pictures and text about that era. The site also gives you discriptions and back rounds on the programs that made the first programs that are critical in modern PC's.

I researched two online banks Lloyds TSB and HSBC, and looked at there internet banking options. I think that HSBC offer more options for there customers then Lloyds tsb do. however Lloyds TSB's student account offers alot more then HSBC's student account, such as a free NUS card and free e music downloads. however HSBC offer a £2000 overdraft where as lloyds only offer £1500 overdraft. I think internet banking still has a long way to go before it will be completely safe, for eamaple internet banking is still very unsafe because that is alot of personal information is on there.

Ebays main purposes are to sell and bid for certain items, these items are mainly second hand good that people do not want any more. Also on ebay there are a numer of shops where you can buy certain clothes or sporting goods from. Its target audience is anyone who wants to buy or sell items. However with ebay it is a what you see is what you get type of site, although it does have insurence on up to £100,000 on its items, also some items on there my be fakes or pritate versions of films and music.
i have researched the weather for the next 5 days on the bbc and have found out that is going to be cloudy but sunny today, sunny tomorrow, sunny on sunday, sunny on monday and cloudy yet sunny on tuesday.

Despite a lag of up to several hours between the earthquake and the impact of the tsunami, nearly all of the victims were taken completely by surprise. There were no tsunami warning systems in the Indian Ocean to detect tsunamis or to warn the general populace living around the ocean. Tsunami detection is not easy because while a tsunami is in deep water it has little height and a network of sensors is needed to detect it. Setting up the communications infrastructure to issue timely warnings is an even bigger problem, particularly in a relatively poor part of the world. A tsunami warning system is a system to detect tsunamis and issue warnings to prevent loss of life and property. It consists of two equally important components: a network of sensors to detect tsunamis and a communications infrastructure to issue timely alarms to permit evacuation of coastal areas.

CWarn
CWarn.org is a global tsunami warning and alert system.
CWarn monitors global earthquake activity and alerts its members, via an SMS text message on their mobile phones, should a tsunami threat be forecast for their particular location.
The CWarn system makes use of its member’s latitude and longitude, taken from the member’s address to calculate distance from the earthquake and possible threat levels.
All possibly effected members are sent an SMS message detailing earthquake magnitude, time, date, location and threat level. The system also allows for members to enter their travel itinerary before departure and their holiday whereabouts are remembered and computed accordingly.

here is my first post look out for many more from me
